TURNING YOUR CHARLOTTE, N.C. EMPTY CANVAS INTO AN AMAZING LANDSCAPE WITH AN AWARD-WINNING WATER FEATURE CONTRACTOR
adding a water feature
But when I learned how to build water features, that's when the landscape really took off! I started with an 8' x 12' natural ecosystem pond with an eight-foot stream featuring three waterfalls. I loved the sound and the amazing kaleidoscope of color when my koi fish came up to the surface to feed. I wanted more! So, I took advantage of our front-yard slope facing the house and created a 40-foot pondless waterfall. Sitting on the front porch sipping our favorite drinks, my wife Christie and I were mesmerized by the sound of the bubbling water and waterfalls. What was once a front yard of turf, two trees and foundation beds became on oasis of serenity. Our stress literally melted away with our new amazing landscape!
BACK TO THE LANDSCAPE -- and more water features!
Now that two water features were in my yard, they had to be softened with landscaping. I kept adding plants, perennials and specimen trees through the years. We now have 10 different varieties of Japanese maples, as well as dozens of azaleas, perennials, rhododendron -- literally more than 100 shrubs.
It does't stop there.
In the front yard we added a set of spillway bowls -- a perfect beginner water feature that is compact and relatively easy to install. The fountainscape is flanked by a sun-loving hydrangea, windmill palm and an interesting weeping redbud tree that harkens the beginning of spring with purple flowers. Rare plantings like these make a landscape interesting and unique.
another Water feature!
Earlier this year, we installed a set of three Aquascape scalloped urns, becoming the first Certified Aquascape Contractor in the United States to do so!
We increase our time in the garden with LED outdoor lighting. We have towering trees that shade the property and are perfect for up lights. A meandering pea gravel path in the back yard is lit by LED path lights. And there's nothing quite like enjoying your pond or pondless waterfall that has the waterfalls and the bottom of the pond lit. The shadows lights create shimmer and dance, and illuminated koi are dazzling to watch.
